Empowering & Engaging Employees With Technology
Historically, companies rarely experienced the risk of a talent shortage or a workforce with options. In many ways, this meant traditional compensation packages including retirement plans, health benefits, and a ‘competitive salary’ would get and retain talent. However, many of these benefits can be obtained independently now. Employees are no longer dependent on an employer if they want medical benefits or even a retirement plan. There are entirely new market segments being created by and for the ‘gig economy’.
While the older generations might not be ready to make the leap, the younger generations are. ‘Millennials’ have now surpassed the ‘Boomer’ generation as the largest generation in the current workforce. Why should you care?
The Millennial generation aligns with the next transformational phase of your business. These individuals will be represented as your new buyers which will make it critical that they are part of your organizational strategy. They know what your future workforce and customer want, no different than their predecessors did.
What does a 21st Century company look like, that attracts the newest and largest workforce?
Retooling For A Better Employee Experience
Your traditional compensation package alone, isn’t going to cut it. Embracing individual ideas and work habits is increasingly important. The 8-5 in-office cookie-cutter approach is proving to be a thing of the past. Like it or not, the workforce has more options than ever before. These options range from ‘gig jobs’ to your competitors who have recognized this and aligned their delivery models to compete.
For the generation who grew up with technology in their hands, a single monitor, Excel spreadsheets and archaic information systems are things of the past. These individuals know how to leverage technology and don’t gain satisfaction or purpose doing things manually. Ultimately, this workforce knows how to get things done using technology. If their work is unnecessarily difficult because their toolset is archaic, don’t expect to attract or retain talent. Furthermore, expect your cost of employee onboarding and turnover to increase substantially without a reimagined toolset.
